Well what can I say really? It turned out to be a one sided embarrassment. A lacklustre and pathetic performance at times from Arsenal handed Manchester City the trophy. Guardiola’s team didn’t even need to be at their best after they ran out deservedly 3-0 winners to claim the managers first trophy in England.
Mustafi’s defending for the first goal was laughable. To leave Aguero goal side from a goal kick was bad enough but for him then to just stop after slight contact and leave Aguero running through on goal is unforgivable. It was a lovely chipped shot from Aguero but the chance was handed to him.
Poor defending from a corner gave Kompany the opportunity to direct Gundogan’s shot into the net. Whilst Silva’s nice finish across the goal to make it 3-0 might have been stopped if Arsenal’s midfield had made more of an effort to get back and defend.
Guardiola’s first trophy in England was never in doubt and I believe it will be the first of many during his time in England. Wenger’s job is surely going to be questioned again and with another game against City on Thursday they have very little time to reflect on how bad today’s performance was.
There’s a lot for Wenger to do in between now and then. If the performance doesn’t improve in front of their own fans on Thursday then it’s sure to be a hostile environment for the Wenger and his players.
Congratulations Pep, now go and bring the Champions League back to England for the first time in a while.
